Shared Stitches Fall Classes

Cleo’s Designs has created a very attractive vest pattern that will look good in a wide range of sizes.  The vest can be made with a tuck technique or you may make it plain.  It’s really fun to make!  You want to make several for the cooler season.

Start your quilting journey with me in this fun, supportive and encouraging series. This series of six 2-1/2 hour classes will provide a firm foundation of the basic elements of quilt making. We will make six simple blocks and will cover fabric choices and color, tools, accurate rotary cutting and machine piecing, and all the other supporting skills needed to have a successful start. If you know how to sew a straight seam, then you are qualified to join in! My goal is to eliminate frustration and intimidation and encourage you to enjoy this time-honored art form. Come into the shop and look at the class sample. When you're done with the class, YOU will be a quilt maker!

If you have some experience free motion quilting and you would like to move up to the next level, then come join me and learn how to do “Curves and Feathers”. I will provide an encouraging and supportive environment to learn these gorgeous motifs. This is a free motion quilting class for those that would like to learn to do very free-form and fun quilting motifs with very little marking. In the “curves” portion of the class I will teach you how to do a beautiful filigree-type of motif that is beautiful and easy to do-you haven't seen this type of motif on quilts before. In the “feathers” portion of this class I will teach you how to do the beautiful, curvy, feminine feathers that you see on some of the finest quilts-without the use of stencils. This is a fun class that will allow you to be able to put these beautiful motifs on your own quilts and garments.

This class will familiarize participants with the Electric Quilt 7 Application for the design and construction of any size quilt.  Instruction will focus on how to use the software tools provided by the application to create and construct quilts of various sizes and designs.  You will learn how quilt projects are created and saved; how quilts and quilt blocks are created and manipulated; how to add, modify and print quilt blocks; how to use EQ7's built in help and manual; and, how to get help directly from Electric Quilt. Students who do not already have EQ7 on their laptop running Windows Vista or later, may have a "limited use" version installed that will be activated for the class.  You must notify Skip by September 24th if you would like to take advantage of this offer.  Registered students will receive a 15% discount on EQ products purchased from Shared Stitches!  We have a few copies of the EQ7 Upgrade in stock and we'll be happy to order the EQ7 program or other EQ products for our students.

We just love Diane's bargello in tropical florals. Let your color sense run wild! Pick the colors that make you happy. Diane will share her technique to "magically" create the wave effect in your quilt. You will really appreciate Diane's relaxed and fun approach. Beginner quilters are welcome. If you would like to learn to free motion quilt in a supportive and fun atmosphere, then join Jenny and learn the skills that will enable you to begin quilting your own projects at home with your home machine. Free motion quilting allows you to work directly on your own projects with little or no marking and no stencils. We will begin working on paper and make lots of mistakes there - then we will begin to play on fabric samples with confidence. This is not as hard as you think! Take a look at the sample in the shop - we will learn all of these motifs in two classes. Free motion quilting can be so fun and liberating - imagine being able to quilt you own quilts!

Jazz up your holidays with this starry "big block" trees skirt. This skirt can easily be made into a table topper. It's simple to construct and you will have this quilt sewn together in class. Put this skirt under your Christmas tree and you'll be able to admire the gifts as well as your quilt! Beginner quilters are welcome. Don't forget to bring a lunch.

Make a fun and useful basket in your favorite color scheme. Bernadette will show you how to make any size basket and a lid,too. Get creative and add embellishments and handles. You can also make placemats, trivets, or even a rug. Bernadette suggests making a basket for Halloween treats, a basket in fall colors for Thanksgiving decor, and gift boxes for the holidays - how fun is that!

Make the mood bright and cheery! The blocks in this quilt are constructed using 12" squares combined with contrasting lattice. Whether you choose a monochromatic color scheme or a variety of colors, this quilt will look great! So simple to construct, you'll have this quilt sewn together in no time! Beginner quilters are welcome.

This is a technique class on how to use simple curved weaving with two highly contrasting fabrics to create a terrific background for an art quilt or garment. Appliques, embellishments can be added for great fun.

The log cabin block may not have the American heritage we think.  Do you want to learn how in the 1800s they made the pleated log cabin block sewn completely by hand and even better, it is a quilt as you go technique used even then.  Come enjoy the day with Karyn, get a little history, and learn a great hand sewing technique to make the blocks and putting them together just like they did many years ago.  You will love this if you are looking for a new hand sewing project! Leave that heavy machine at home.

If you have already taken a free motion quilting class and want to take your skills a bit further, then this is the class for you! This class will further your free motion skills and add another technique - trapunto. Trapunto, or “stuffed quilting”, creates a raised, puffy surface which makes your quilting pop - see the blue sample in the shop! It creates an elegant look that you can add to any quilt or wearable piece. If you would like to further your free motion skills and add this unique look to your quilts, join me to learn this elegant technique. It’s a lot easier than you think because you start your work with a marked stencil. Then you get to fill the area around the trapunto with the free motion motif of your choice. If you have taken an introductory free motion class and would like to improve your skills, this class is for you.

You've made your 9 blocks – now what??? Using the reversible quilt technique, we will quilt each block individually with your walking foot and straight line quilting. Next, the blocks and borders will be put together using a special sashing technique that gives you a quilt that is beautiful and unique on both sides! You will learn everything you need to know to complete your quilt after these 2 sessions. You may use any nine 12-13" completed blocks for this class.

This is an easy one-day project that looks a lot harder than it is.  There are no Y seams to deal with.  You can choose fabric to coordinate with your kitchen or dining room and/or have a different one for each season.
